Tron: Ares

Tron: Ares

Summary

When tech CEO Julian Dillinger brings a new super program named Ares off the Grid into the real world, Ares begins to question his directive and his creator. The only problem is: none of Dillinger’s programs can stay in the real world longer than 29 seconds. He believes that the original tech company, Encom, his rival, has found it. And they have. Eve Kim, the CEO of Encom, is racing to bring the code back to headquarters when Ares and his partner, Athena, intercept her. When Ares begins to “malfunction” and turn against Dillinger, Athena is made the new head of the grid, and she will stop at nothing to complete her directive. As Dillinger’s own creation goes wildly out of hand, it’s a fight for permanence as the real world and the digital one collide.

Starring: Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Gillian Anderson, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, Jeff Bridges

My Review

Rating: 5/5

My Recommended Age: 12+

Things To Be Aware Of

Violence: 3/5 (There’s almost no blood in Tron: Ares–when programs are killed, they don’t bleed, they shatter into hundreds of particles. It can be intense, but it’s not gory. One woman gets stabbed and we see the blood on her shirt. A few punches are thrown.)

Sexual Content: 1/5 (There’s a joke that a woman had a crush on someone. A woman sarcastically refers to Ares as her boyfriend.)

Language: 2/5 (One s-word. God’s name is taken in vain multiple times, paired sometimes with d**m. A few uses of d**m and hell.)

Other Negative Content: 1/5 (A couple characters are shown holding a bottle of beer.)

My Take

I went to see Tron: Ares twice in theater. And I raved about it both times. First of all, the special effects and just the overall look of the movie are absolutely incredible. Seeing it on the big screen was insane. The soundtrack is also incredible: the shaking seats definitely added to the vibe. I love a good action movie, but I don’t love gore, and that’s one of the reasons why Tron is such a hit for me: there’s a ton of intense action sequences, but there’s almost no blood–most of the characters who die shatter, and there’s a relatively low body count anyways.

I’ve heard people say that the story wasn’t very good, but I loved it!! The whole idea of digital programs coming to the real world was so well thought out and so interesting! Ares was such a cool character: his “malfunction” and his desire to be human were a very good drive for the story. I loved the villain character of Julian Dillinger: it made my little writer heart happy. I thought the plot did a very, very good job with his motives–and with one of the plot twists (which I can’t say because it’s a spoiler) it made his character even more complex. Athena was an excellent villain too: she was the evil villain. Dillinger was the convoluted villain.

Overall, Tron: Ares was a very, very good movie. It had epic action sequences, a good plot, minimal language, and virtually no sexual content. There were hints of a possible romance, but the movie didn’t make that a main point, which I liked. If you’re looking for a great action movie with intriguing characters and fantastic special effects, I would 100% recommend Tron: Ares!

this sounds like a movie I would like. I also don’t like to see violence with realistic people being killed or lots of blood and gore.
